SEPoS fails in protest request

The women?s semifinals were played under a cloud of controversy as SEPoS via its president and former national men?s coach Gideon Dickson had launched a protest against the decision taken by the T&TVF Disciplinary Committee following confirmation of some wrong doing on the path of West Side Stars

In a letter to the Nicole Selvon-led T&TVF Executive, Dickson requested a resolution with regards to the use of illegal players by West Side Stars women?s team and in response the Stars? president, Jamie Hutchinson, the T&TVF Control Committee which includes Selvon, Brian Charles and Susan Pierre stated that after consideration of all the evidence, it was unanimously determined that West Side Stars Volleyball Club has breached Section 5 of the Constitution of the T&TVF

The ruling stated that during the 2017/2018 Flow Premier League it was discovered that there were five illegal players registered on West Side Stars, namely Kalisha Barrow, Alyssa Hutchinson, Kiune Fletcher, Stacy Fletcher and Akilah Sealey

After having given the management of West Side Stars the opportunity to be heard and having reviewed the evidence presented, more particularly the fact that West Side Stars did not denied the charges as alleged but gave a defence of mistake in registering the five players under the wrong club, the committee has found West Side Stars guilty of the charges

The Disciplinary Committee gave consideration to the fact that the names of the players were overlooked at the Technical Meeting

In conclusion, the Disciplinary Committee also gave consideration to the fact that the the five players will not be allowed to continue to play in the 2017/2018 Premier League and the points earned by West Side Stars in the three games prior to the discovery of the charge will not be deducted from the team

However, in reply, Dickson said, he neither his club was satisfied with the outcome of the meeting as West Side Stars were allowed to keep their points and position on the four-team table

Dickson noted that according to FIVB rules for the use of illegal players, the team in question should be deducted all its points for the matches the players were involved, which meant that West Side Stars should end with a 0-6 record and bottom of the table

He added, ?This would mean that the semifinal line should in fact be Glamorgan versus West Side Stars and SEPoS against Technocrats

The matter was sent to the T&T Olympic Committee for arbitration, but with its president Brian Lewis attending the Commonwealth Games in Gold Coast, Australia, it was left for its General Secretary, Annette Knott to convey the emergency meeting, which did not come off

However, the matches went ahead as previously scheduled and reached for comment, Dickson said time was against them to have the meeting convened, but his club will live to fight another day
