Entornointeligente.com / RUSSELL SEATON was killed in Barataria last night. The month of January ended with a record 62 killings.
Seaton was shot while sitting in a friend’s house at Sixth Avenue, near St George’s Grounds at around 8.45 p.m.
Seaton, 58, of Belmont, was shot several times and died in the living room.
Earlier this week President of the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service Social and Welfare Association, Insp Michael Seales, said the homicide rate had left him and his executive members ‘exceedingly alarmed’.
Seales said the Police Service needed new strategies to fight crime, as the old ones were not working.
He said 1,064 firearms were taken off the streets last year, but seemed to be no correlation between the number of firearms found and the 494 homicides committed.
The second highest homicide toll recorded was in June 2008 when there were 57 killings.
