Neeri to use STP, solar panels for Naik Talao’s facelift - EntornoInteligente /

Nagpur : The National Environmental Engineering Research Institute (Neeri) will use solar panels for rejuvenating Naik Talao , which has been neglected for long by NMC. Deputy mayor Deepraj Pardikar on Friday convened a meeting over rejuvenation works being entrusted to Neeri. The environmental agency informed in the meeting that there are two big tortoises in the lake, and they will also help in rejuvenation. Officials from NMC’s Pench project department said Neeri have prepared a detailed project report for rejuvenation of Naik Talao. It had earlier estimated the cost of rejuvenation at Rs 3.83 crore and additional RRs 5 lakh for operation and maintenance for five years. “Now, NMC will spend Rs 5.97 crore over five years for the project,” the deputy mayor told TOI. “Three sewer lines are polluting the lake. Neeri will use phytorid technology to rejuvenate the lake for which it will construct a sewage treatment plant (STP) with 1.8 million litres per day (MLD) capacity,” said the deputy mayor. Dr Rita Dhopadkar, senior technical officer of Neeri, gave a detailed presentation to NMC officials and office-bearers on rejuvenation of the lake. She said phytorid technology would be used for treating sewage. The three sewage lines discharging waste water into the lake would be joined, and the discharge would then be treated at the STP. Dhopadkar said Neeri would also desilt and clean up the lake. Florafts and aerators would be used to keep the lake water clean. The quality of Naik Talao water would be maintained as per green award norms. Follow and connect with us on Twitter , Facebook , Linkedin
