Entornointeligente.com / RJR News / Jamaican reggae/dancehall artiste Buju Banton has lost his bid to secure a new trial on two of the offences for which he was found guilty. US Court of Appeals judges, sitting in Atlanta Georgia on Wednesday ruled that they did not have the jurisdiction to hear the matter as they are without the power to dispose of the issues. This means, that for now, Buju Banton, whose given name is Mark Myrie, will have to continue to serve his ten-year prison sentence. Buju Banton was arrested in the US on drug charges in 2009 and convicted in 2011 on a charge of conspiracy to distribute cocaine. He is scheduled to be released in 2019.
He had filed a motion in court, in an attempt to secure an earlier release date, under a recent change in federal drug sentencing guidelines.
