Entornointeligente.com / ENTORNOINTELIGENTE.COM / News day / Deadlocked at 1-1 after 80 minutes of play, 10-man Presentation (San Fernando) conceded a corner to which FyzabadÂs Ronaldo London stepped up to deliver from the left. London in-swinging delivery surprised the entire Presentation defence and goalkeeper before nestling in the back of the net on the far right. The unexpected but decisive goal sparked a frenzy of celebration among the ÂFyzo fans.
A visibly upset Presentation head coach, Shawn Cooper, could only bow his head in dismay.
In the first half, the South Zone champions lived up to their usual dominance when they opened the scoring after just 11 minutes of play.
National junior player and ÂPres forward, Shackiel Henry, fed the ball from a corner kick precisely to the feet of teammate Quintal John, who capitalised on his position at the near post, and slotted one past Fyzabad goalie, Quasie Dickson (1-0).
The prestigious south school continued to control proceedings in the first 45 minutes even though the muddy outfield had both teams visibly uncomfortable. In the 21st minute, Elijah Cudjoe could have sent the Presentation ÂLions further ahead but his shot on an open goal went just wide of the right post. Minutes before halftime, goal-scorer John was substituted after sustaining a injury on the right flank.
Upon the resumption, Fyzabad seemed to settle a bit more and began creating more goal-scoring chances. In the 51st minute, a clinical through ball fell at the feet of powerhouse Henry, who laid it off to Civaughn Dimsoy, only for him to shoot and hit the post.
Six minutes later, the referee blew his whistle to have a short word with his linesman. Presentation College were then dealt a crucial blow as Jared Gordon was shown an immediate red card for an off-the-ball incident with one of the ÂFyzo players.
Using their player advantage, Fyzabad then found striker Phillip Felmin one-on-one with the Presentation keeper, who made no mistake to send the match into a nail-biting 1-1 score-line after 72 minutes of play. With just 10 minutes to go, London successfully converted his corner kick to send the boys in red 2-1 ahead. Presentation pressed for the equaliser in the dying minutes but all attempts proved futile due to a resilient Fyzabad defence.
Speaking to an elated Fyzabad principal, Troy Jebodhsingh, after the match, he declared, ÂWe are second to none. I must say thanks to the coaching staff, teaching staff and the students of Fyzabad Secondary. We are behind our team one hundred percent and we are going places.Â
