Freeport couple charged with fraud /

A man and his com­mon-law wife charged with land and car fraud were grant­ed $80,000 and $50,000 bail re­spec­tive­ly by Jus­tice of the Peace Stephen Young. Dami­an Ram­dath, 39, a self-em­ployed truck dri­ver and Niki­ta Keisha Mun­gal, 36 who is al­so self-em­ployed were charged by PC Ramkissoon of the Fraud Squad.

Ac­cord­ing to po­lice re­ports, in the first in­ci­dent, Ram­dath and Mun­gal re­ceived a $26,000 down pay­ment to­wards the pur­chase of a par­cel of land lo­cat­ed in Ex­change, Cou­va which they did not own.  

In the sec­ond in­ci­dent, a man re­port­ed to po­lice that he paid a woman $5,000 as a down pay­ment for the sale of a Toy­ota Axio mo­tor ve­hi­cle val­ued at $125,000. The man told po­lice that up­on de­liv­ery of the ve­hi­cle, he was re­quired to pay the bal­ance of the mon­ey, how­ev­er, the woman al­leged­ly failed to de­liv­er the ve­hi­cle and at­tempts to be re­fund­ed were un­suc­cess­ful.

  Fol­low­ing en­quiries, Ram­dath and Mun­gal were in­dict­ed for the of­fences. Mun­gal is sched­uled to ap­pear on May 31st, 2022 at the Port-of-Spain Mag­is­trates’ Court, while she and Ram­dath will ap­pear on June 17th, 2022, to an­swer the joint charge.
