FLY JAMAICA FLIGHT CRASHES IN GUYANA - EntornoInteligente

Entornointeligente.com / A Fly Ja­maica air­craft crashed in­to a fence on the run­way of Guyana’s main air­port ear­ly Fri­day morn­ing.

Six of the 118 pas­sen­gers on board were bad­ly in­jured and tak­en to hos­pi­tal as all oth­ers were evac­u­at­ed safe­ly.

The in­jured re­ceived treat­ment at the Di­a­mond Di­ag­nos­tic Cen­tre.

Emer­gency ser­vices at the Ched­di Ja­gan In­ter­na­tion­al Air­port were mo­bilised some 45 min­utes af­ter the Fly Ja­maica flight had tak­en off for Cana­da, as the cap­tain ra­dioed that there were hy­draulic prob­lems and they would be re­turn­ing to the airstrip.

First re­ports in­di­cate that the plane crashed in­to a fence at the air­port and on­ly came to a halt af­ter en­coun­ter­ing a large pile of sand.

The 118 pas­sen­gers in­clud­ed two in­fants; eight crew mem­bers, six Guyanese and two Ja­maicans; one Amer­i­can, 82 Cana­di­ans, 35 Guyanese, one Pak­istani and one Trinida­di­an.

The run­way was tem­porar­i­ly closed af­ter the Fly Ja­maica flight OJ256 crash land­ed at 2.53 am on Fri­day.

The rel­e­vant over­seas au­thor­i­ties have been in­formed and an in­ves­ti­ga­tion is un­der­way.
