Five people were shot and injured yesterday after a lone gunman opened gunfire on a vendor in the May Pen town centre in Clarendon.

Reports are that about 3:45 pm vendors in the vicinity of the Denbigh/Four Paths bus park were sent scampering for cover when the lone gunman fired several shots.

The gunman, according to eye witness reports, approached a female vendor at her stall posing as a customer.

He then took what appeared to be a revolver from a plastic bag he was carrying and attempted to fire at the vendor.

When that effort failed, he pulled another gun from the same bag and opened fire, hitting the vendor who ran in her bid to escape.

The gunman gave chase, firing several shots in her direction and injured four other persons.

The perpetrator then escaped along Council Street, which runs beside the Clarendon Municipal Corporation building.

The vendor received shots to her buttocks and arms. She and the other four persons were rushed to the May Pen Hospital for treatment.
