Entornointeligente.com / Europe slid further into crisis on Friday as multiple countries faced overwhelming numbers of coronavirus cases and fatalities.   Germany reported its highest daily death toll of the pandemic with 1,188 fatalities recorded in the past 24 hours.   The previous record was 1,129 on December 30.   The country, which was praised for its handling of the first wave of the pandemic, is currently under a stringent national lockdown, which has been extended until January 31.   In the United Kingdom, London‘s mayor Sadiq Khan declared a major incident Friday, warning that hospitals in the capital were close to being overrun.   In a statement, Mr. Khan said the situation in London is now critical with the spread of the virus out of control.   Mr. Khan said the number of cases in London has increased rapidly with more than a third more patients being treated in hospitals compared to the peak of  the pandemic last April.   Fatalities are mounting at record levels in Britain as health officials face a deadly start to 2021.    The country reported 1,162 deaths on Thursday, the second-highest toll since the beginning of the pandemic.
