Eclectic Davis on the mark - EntornoInteligente

Entornointeligente.com / On February 23, singer/guitarist Eclectic Davis made his debut big show performance at Stars R Us In Kingston. Though the event featured legends such as Ken Boothe and Big Youth, he showed no signs of stage fright. Two months later, he is preparing for another career landmark — the release of Missing You , his first song. It depicts a youth’s heartfelt apology to his mother for going astray.

Tracks for Missing You were actually laid 10 years ago in New York. Recently, Eclectic Davis and producer Paul Kastick revisited the project with vocals written by the artiste.

“I wanted to make a statement, a personal one. We all go through things in life and sometimes you come away from it stronger,” he said.

Born Romain Davis, Eclectic Davis grew up in Red Hills, St Andrew and the Seventh-day Adventist Church where he discovered music. As a child, he was a member of The Determined Brothers, a gospel group that comprised relatives.

Moving to the United States, he lived in Maryland but kept in touch with the music scene back home. While he appreciated dancehall elders like Beres Hammond, the more structured rhythms of Bob Marley and Jimmy Cliff influenced him to learn guitar.

“Playing an instrument makes a significant difference, in that my vocals and guitar timing becomes synchronised the more I play. This allows me to understand and appreciate the contrast of instrument sounds and vocals,” he explained.

Eclectic Davis said performing at Stars R Us whetted his appetite for more live dates. Releasing Missing You , he added, gives him a similar feeling for additional recording. 123 , a song he co-produced with Jemoi Monteith, is a proposed follow-up.
