The Ministry of Health & Wellness announced on Saturday that doses of the COVID-19 vaccine earmarked for this weekend’s inoculation blitz at the National Arena in St Andrew were depleted early in the day.
As a result the decision was made to close the vaccination site less than two hours after inoculation got underway in the morning.
There were 1,720 persons scheduled to be vaccinated on the day.
Dunstan Bryan, Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Health & Wellness, Dunstan said new dates will be provided for persons who were scheduled to receive their second dose of the vaccine.
This did not satisfy some of those who turned up and were not vaccinated.
One elderly man told Radio Jamaica that he and others like him received “no compassion” as they waited “in the sun” only to be disappointed in the end, while younger persons who had turn up, “in a panic” were vaccinated.
The National Health Fund, which is responsible for procuring the vaccines, is projecting howerver that adequate supplies will be arriving shortly.
