Business group irate over RBC branch closure - EntornoInteligente / The trinidad Guardian / Disappointed with the decision by RBC Royal Bank T&T to close its Sangre Grande branch, the Sangre Grande Chamber of Commerce is calling on the bank to give its customers an explanation for the closure.

The business group said it members were taken by “surprise,” and were not given formal notice of the decision.

Describing the closure of the branch as “rash and irresponsible,” the group said it would have been courteous of the bank to provide an explanation for closing the Sangre Grande branch.

RBC stated in a published notice that, it had “merged the services from our Sangre Grande location with our Arima branch effective January 2, 2018.”

“We encourage our clients to visit the Arima branch or consider RBC’s digital and mobile channels for their basic transactions: deposits, fund transfers, bill payments, credit card payments and wire transfers in order to have 24-hr access to the bank’s services. We remain committed to an enhanced client experience as we continue to expand our digital and mobile solutions.”

Highlighting the possible issues which would arise as a result of the closure of that branch, the Chamber said there maybe a safety issue when business people would have to do deposits, pensioners have to cash their cheques, and persons with special needs had to transact business at the bank.

Stating its case, the business group said customers of the bank have been treated with “scant courtesy,” as logistics have not been properly considered when the decision was made to shut down that branch.

“Why was no written correspondence sent to customers giving them sufficient notice of this? What will businessmen do with regards to the safe transit of their monies to RBC Arima after the Christmas season? Will RBC be providing secured transportation for businessmen from Sangre Grande to Arima on a daily basis?”

“How are pensioners going to access their monies? Many of whom, will have difficulty with travelling, who may be ill , who may need to be accompanied by a family member or may be coming from long distances.” the Chamber said
