Kieron Pollard wants the 90 points on offer in ODIs Tue, 07/20/2021 – 5:16am AFTER watching the T20 West Indies team carry off a 4-1 victory over the visiting Australia side, West Indies captain Kieron Pollard, who was sidelined for the entire series, said it was pleasing to watch how the home side went about playing their cricket.

Pollard, who is the white ball captain for the West Indies, handed over the leadership to Nicholas Pooran for the series, but was present at each game and said that the energy and the intensity did not drop from the team even though players had to be rotated in due to injuries to players.

With the first of the 3-game One Day International series set to bowl off today at Kensington Oval, Pollard, who did not confirm if he was ready to return to the helm of the team, said it was good to get the opportunity to get some rest and he has been doing the necessary things in order to return to play.

Speaking at virtual press conference yesterday, he said he still had some time before they had to make the decision about his fitness.

He had high praise for the bowling and fielding of the team and said that in the international world 300 runs in an ODI is not the par score and they will be aiming for over that.

“Those are international standards (300) but if we bowl good and limit the opposition,” then it would be good.

However the aim is to score 300-320 when batting.

With some players from the T20 team also included in the ODI squad, Pollard said that they are professional and the transition is a mindset as the ODI is a longer format.

Key for the home side will be to find the right balance and he believes that they have started to find that so the next step is to consistently hit their targets.

In the ODIs there is more room for specialists and less alrounders and Pollard said he can’t se that changing much.

With every game important and geared towards the 2023 World Cup, the West Indies captain said he is looking for the 90 points that are on offer in this 3-game series but would take 60 points minimum of not the maximum.
