TRINIDAD Y TOBAGO: Yes, Guyana joins the club* / Trinidad Express / GUYANA received a barrage of advice about how to handle its new status as a country which has discovered oil offshore during the recent “Building Capacity for Managing the Hydrocarbon Sector” conference in Georgetown, the capital. So much so, that it has already rushed ahead to announce it will establish a sovereign wealth fund – a move which took Trinidad and Tobago decades to accomplish – long before it has even received a cent in oil-related income from the production sharing contract (PSC) it signed with super-major ExxonMobil in 1999 for the Stabroek block, where the US$80 million Liza 1 well identified about 700 million barrels of oil earlier this year.
