Trinidad Express / THE BIG talking point amongst racefans is the clash between Teniente Coronel and two-time Horse of the Year Bigman In Town, in today’s 1,200-metre Santa Rosa Dash at Santa Rosa Park, Arima. The $100,000, Grade Three contest has also attracted the likes of two-time Stewards Cup and Sian’s Gold victor Control Unit, former Sugar Mike Stakes winner Holy Man, the speedy Whisper Light, and Trini Navigator. Bigman In Town has not raced since beating Swept Away in the Starlight Stakes in March. Can he turn back the hands of time against the emerging star Teniente Coronel? ‘Bigman’ has won this event twice in the past, while Control Unit is the defending champion. ‘Bigman’ is fit and a wet/fast track will suit him ideally. Trainer Harriram ‘Pepsi’ Gobin’s Teniente Coronel is rated his toughest rival, based on his effortless successes in his last three races. This time, however, he will be racing over a shorter trip, and the pace is expected to be hot. He will have to track the early speed and then quicken. He cannot hang around and wait to pounce as the fractions would be very quick.
