Trinidad Express / Good Samaritans, politicians and businessmen have promised to contribute to the Shannen Luke fund. The three-year-old pre-schooler, who was diagnosed with beta thalassaemia major, requires a bone marrow transplant. She is expected to travel with her parents to Bambino Gesu Hospital, Italy, where the procedure will take place on May 3. Shannen’s parents, however, need to raise $1.25 million. The Rotary Club of Chaguanas has undertaken a project to raise $250,000 in aid of Shannen’s surgery. The child’s mother, Michelle Kallie-Luke, said the family has received overwhelming support and she believes her daughter would be able to have the surgery next month.
