Jamaica Gleaner / The Police High Command says it has ordered the Inspectorate of Constabulary (IOC) to investigate the circumstances that led to prisoners from the St James Police Division who were transferred to the Horizon Adult Remand Centre in Kingston being returned to the western parish.
In a release this morning, the Police High Command said about 50 prisoners from St James were transferred yesterday to the Horizon facility, but they were returned due to the unavailability of cell space there.
The Police High Command says this caused undue anxiety among the detainees and their families.
It says head of the St James Police Division, Senior Superintendent Wilfred Campbell, has since accepted that the usual communication between his division and the Department of Corrections command staff at Horizon did not take place.
The High Command says the IOC will investigate the matter to determine who is at fault and take appropriate disciplinary action where necessary.
