Jamaica Gleaner / The town of Falmouth is poised for a significant financial fall-off as three major cruise lines have pulled out of the Falmouth Port.
It is estimated that the sector would lose approximately five million dollars monthly.
Falmouth?s mayor, Colin Gager, says the three ships, the Allure of The Seas, Celebrity, and one from Royal Caribbean, have decided to take their businesses elsewhere for the coming season and next year.
Mayor Gager says the cruise lines are concerned about visitor harassment, among other issues.
He notes that the three vessels bring a combined 10 thousand guests per visit to the port.
The Falmouth Mayor admits that visitor harassment has been an ongoing problem with the conduct of tour bus operators and craft vendors leaving much to be desired.
Gager says the municipal corporation is working closely with stakeholders to address the concerns, stressing that the local economy cannot afford to lose the cruise lines.
