RJR News / Jamaican Alia Atkinson will look to improve on her silver medal from four years ago when she contests the final of the women’s 50m breaststroke at the 21 st Commonwealth Games in Gold Coast, Australia on Friday morning at 4:41 Jamaica time. Atkinson, the Commonwealth Games record holder, enters the final with the fastest time, after touching the wall in 30.53 seconds in her semi-final. Atkinson who was the flag bearer at the opening ceremony, earlier posted 30.98 seconds to take heat 1. Meanwhile, the Jamaican netballers will go for win number 2 in Pool ‘A’ when they face South Africa at midnight Jamaica time. The Sunshine Girls easily dispatched Fiji 88-30 in their opener with captain Jhaniele Fowler-Reid netting 40 goals from 43 attempts.
Rebekah Robinson had 15 from 16 attempts while Romelda Aiken netted 24 times from 32 attempts. Jamaica’s badminton team will also be in action on Thursday night as they take on Zambia in their second contest at 11:00 pm. The historic Jamaican lawn bowls team will also look for their first win at the Commonwealth Games when they play South Africa at 1:00 am on Thursday morning.
