Curacao Chronicle / WILLEMSTAD – In about two months, radio stations will be obliged to pay for played music. Composers, lyricists and music publishers will then have to receive a fee.
This was stated by Maribel Gomes of DK Legal. That office has joined forces with the Canadian copyright organization Socan. Interest organization DUCAPRO represents the Caribbean part of the Kingdom for Socan.
According to Gomes, artists must now enter into a contract with DUCAPRO for representation to pay for their work. A spokesperson for the law firm could not yet say how this relates to contracts already signed with organizations such as the Dutch Buma / Stemra.
