Curacao Chronicle / WILLEMSTAD – Recently, dogs and cats were poisoned male in the vicinity of Sint Jorisbaai. Much attention was paid to this in the press and social media.
The Public Prosecution (OM) Curaçao wants to make known that such behavior is punishable by law. Articles 2: 335 and 3:10 of the Penal Code stipulates, among other things, that it is punishable the detriment of the health of an animal without any reasonable cause. Article 2: 334 makes it punishable to deliberately and illegally kill, damage, render unusable or dispose of an animal.
This last article stipulates that a prison sentence of at most two years or a fine of the fourth category can be imposed. For these facts one can be arrested and the last fact also be placed behind bars.
The Public Prosecution wishes to emphasize that perpetrators of such crimes will be dealt with.
The Public Prosecutor asks the public for cooperation in this. If anyone has information about the (presumed) perpetrator(s) of the poisonings of the animals in the vicinity of Sint Jorisbaai / Jan Thiel, they can report this anonymously by calling 108. They can also call the police via 917 and pass on their message.
