The Trinidad Guardian / West Indies under-19 batsman Cephas Cooper was in great form yesterday, hitting 124 against Couva East in the second round of the PowerGen Secondary Schools Intercol series at Lewis Street in San Fernando.
His innings gave his school victory and a place in the quarter-finals of the tournament next week. Right hander looked good from the first ball and after his epic 59-ball contribution he saw his team reach 218 for five off their 20 overs. He got good support from Avinash Mahabirsingh who made 38, as Naps tallied am impressive 218 for five off 20 overs.
After this beating Couva East gave up and was skilled out for 81. Enrique Singh was excellent with the ball in taking 4/23, while Faiysal Mangeera and Ryan Bandoo collected two wickets each.
Joining Naps in the quarter finals as well will be Presentation College who defeated Manzanilla Secondary by nine wickets. Manzanilla has played good cricket all season in the North Championship but was eaten up by the big boys, as they Pres competed in the Premiership. Taking first strike Manzanilla made 124/9 off 20 overs with Emmanual Garcia getting 37 and Alex Ali contributing 40. There were two wickets apiece for Presentation College bowlers Isaiah Ali and Joel Sutherland. Shiva Ragoobar then scored a rapid unbeaten 70 and together with Aniel Pittiram 38 not out took their side home at 125/1.
Barrackpore West was also in good form and they won against ASJA Charlieville. The 109/9 that ASJA scored was not enough, as Brandon Singh with an unbeaten 48 steered Barrackpore home.
Spinner Sameer Ali was at the top of his game, snaring five wickets to lead Vishnu Boys College to victory over Carapichaima East. Vishnu Boys batted first and scored 122 as Rupdeen Sookdeo took 4/22 for Caps. The Central school then replied with 110 all out as Ali grabbed 5/11 in his four overs.
Champions Hillview continued to show their distance from the other schools in terms of quality, as they bowled out Trinity College East for just 42 runs at Tunapuna. Hillview batted first and scored an imposing 169/4 off their 20 overs with Leonardo Julien getting 52 not out, Sachin Seecharan 50 and Kirstan Kallicharan 42. Kareem Muradali snatched four wickets for five runs and Navin Bedassie three wickets for seven runs to humble them for 42, giving Hillview victory by 27 runs.

At Chaguanas: Manzanilla Secondary 124/9 (20) (Emmanual Garcia 37, Alex Ali 40, Isaiah Ali 2/21, Joel Sutherland 2/27) vs Presentation Chaguanas 125/1 (Shiva Ragoobar 70no, Aniel Pittiram 38no) – Pres won by 9 wkts.
At Lewis Street: Naparima College 218/5 (20) (Cephas Cooper 124, Avinash Mahabirsingh 38) vs Couva East 81 all out (Enrique Singh 4/23, Faiysal Mangera 2/27, Ryan Bandoo 2/2) – Naps won by 137 runs.
