Castilla boss Ramis gets off to a winning start in Zaragoza / As / Like his predecessor Zinedine Zidane, new Castilla manager Luis Miguel Ramis got his tenure off to a winning start on Sunday when his side beat Ebro in Zaragoza 1-0 to close the gap on Segunda B Group II leaders Barakaldo, who play Toledo later in the day. Castilla sit in second in their group as it stands, a point ahead of Real Unión, who travel to Talavera for their week 19 fixture.
Ramis’ first 11 featured Martin Odegaard, Borja Mayoral and Marcos Llorente, with Zidane’s super-sub and Castilla top scorer Mariano Díaz starting on the bench. One of Zidane’s first acts as Real boss was to inform the board that he wants the Dominican striker with the first team squad next season and his contract renewed as quickly as possible. Enzo Zidane also had to make do with a substitute appearance, coming on in the second half with Díaz. Also making an appearance was midfielder Aleix Febas, recently promoted to Castilla and one of the jewels of the academy, where Ramis, the former Juvenil A youth team coach.
Llorente sealed the victory just before the break, latching on to a long ball and hitting a shot across the opposition keeper. The lead was deserved on the balance of play in the first half but after the interval Ebro pressed for an equalizer and were dangerous from set-pieces. The home side’s clearest opening came in the 83rd minute when Konare finished off a counter with a shot against the bar.
