Oil pumps life into our economy’s veins. However, when it is carelessly handled and allowed to leak into our ocean, as it did on October 15, it can spell death to marine life as well as death to the fishing and yachting industries that are already struggling to stay afloat! This latest oil spill has affected every grain of sand, pebble, rock, shell, shoreline, mangrove, jetty, boat, buoy, rope, anchor chain, fishing net, pelican, seagull, fish, shrimp and crab in the surrounding waters of the north-western peninsula.
