JAMAICA: Jamaicans Arrested For Shooting In California Released Without Charge

RJR News / The two Jamaican men who were arrested on suspicion of murder following Saturday's shooting in Los Angeles, California at an underground Jamaican restaurant have been released without charges. Fifteen people were shot in the incident, including Robert Davis who the Jamaican police say was the main financier of the Rat Bat and Sunlight Street gangs in St. Andrew South.   A spokeswoman for the Los Angeles Police Department said Mowayne McKay, 33 and Diego Reid, 25, were released from jail on Tuesday evening.    Prosecutors said they needed additional evidence to consider formal charges against the men.    Another police spokesperson told the Los Angeles Times that the Jamaicans are not thought to be the men who initially confronted and killed the first victim at the makeshift restaurant. He said the gunmen remain at large.      McKay and Reid were arrested on suspicion of murder early Sunday after they were found at area hospitals seeking treatment for bullet wounds.    According to the police, gunfire erupted at the restaurant on Rimpau Boulevard, after two men confronted another man and fatally shot him.    The police say the dispute, which occurred during a birthday celebration which was being attended by 50 persons, likely arose from a drug deal gone bad.    Nine men and six women were shot. The four people who died were all men.
