It's crunch time in the Hero Caribbean League (CPL) but Trinbago Knight Riders (TKR) captain Dwayne Bravo said the 2015 champions are staying calm ahead of what will be a tough final week in “the biggest party in sport”.

TKR square off against St Kitts and Nevis Patriots in the first playoff tonight from 8 p.m. at Brian Lara Cricket Academy in Tarouba and will have to shake off their loss against the Barbados Tridents on Saturday, which also saw them lose their top run-scorer Brendon McCullum, who has been ruled out of the remainder of the tournament with a hand injury.

The winner of tonight's playoff will qualify for Saturday's final while the losers will have to play in the second playoff on Thursday night against the winners of the tomorrow's eliminator between Guyana Amazon Warriors and defending champions Jamaica Tallawahs.

The Patriots are on a high after knocking out former champions Barbados Tridents on Sunday night to secure second place on the standings behind TKR and if they play anything like they did on Sunday, Bravo and company could be in for a tough fight.

Evin Lewis created a buzz with his match-winning 97 off 32 balls, which guided the Patriots to a ten-wicket win. The left-hander slapped 11 sixes as the Patriots scored 128 without loss in just seven overs.

Speaking to the media yesterday, Bravo said his players know what they have to do and are ready for the challenge.

Bravo also expressed confidence in William Perkins, who he said will open the innings tonight.

“We finished on top the table so it is happy days for us but having said that the entire tournament was competitive.

We always expect CPL to be a tough competition apart from one team that did not really have an impact.

The tournament now shifts to a different stage now so obviously its crunch time now,” said Bravo.

“All of us are aware of what we have to do to get to the final.

It is nothing new. We have been in this position before so it is just a matter of taking it as just another cricket game.

We have the same attitude and energy and once we approach it the same way hopefully we can get the result that we are looking for.

We are playing good cricket and we respect the opposition…St Kitts are a good team so let's see how it goes,” Bravo added.

Speaking about McCullum, Bravo said: “It is a big loss for us not just with the bat but the way he carries about himself, he is a true professional and I think his leadership skills will definitely be missed.”

“After we heard the news that he was out of the tournament, the team made a pledge to actually go on and try to win the tournament for him.

He is one of the main reasons we got this far and I think the tournament will miss him as well because he is an exciting player.”

“We have William Perkins who will replace him.

He is going to get his opportunity. We all know he has potential and now is the time for him to step-up. These things do happen and just continue to play the way we have been playing,” Bravo added.

Daniel Christian replaces McCullum for the remainder of the tournament and arrived in Trinidad yesterday afternoon however Bravo insisted “William Perkins is going to open.

Dan Christian is coming in as a back-up player. We need a replacement player because there is a possibility that we may have to play three games…you never know.

We need a back-up but I made it clear that William Perkins will be playing.”

Knight Riders' coach, Simon Katich said that “losing an iconic figure like Brendon to injury is a massive loss to the team, but in Daniel we have a proven match-winner who has just led a side to a T20 title in England.

We hope that he can make it two trophies in two weeks with us in Trinidad.”

The Patriots have a settled side and after their crushing win over Barbados Tridents, thanks to Lewis, they will have the momentum heading into today's playoff.

“We are at stage three now,” Patriots skipper Chris Gayle said on Sunday. “Stage two was to finish in the top two. Trinidad are a good team and we are looking forward for Tuesday,” he added.
