Energy companies will continue to benefit from exemptions on customs duties for the importation of material and equipment until 2020. Trade Minister Paula Gopee-Scoon piloted a motion at yesterday’s Parliament sitting, asking for the exemption of import and customs duties for certain categories of goods, equipment, material and supplies imported for offshore petroleum exploration and petroleum operations for the period January 1, 2018, to December 31, 2020. She said the duty exemptions will result in a loss of revenue, but has major benefits. “We are aware that the continuation of this benefit will result in some revenue loss for the Government.
